Heimat
Postcard Series, colour, offset print, 10,5 x 15,4 cm, 2008
The photographs in the ‘Heimat’ project are documentary images from an erotic photography workshop in Austria. The postcards are reminiscent of those greeting cards with the ‘dirty joke’ that one can buy, for example, in shops off the beaten track, to send holiday greetings from the Alps. These capitalise on the theme of Alpine eroticism, drawing on stereotypical clichés. Sayings such as “There’s no sin on the Alm” and fantasies of lustful “Dirndls” collide in the “Heimat” series with production realities that lie far removed from these clichés. Here, it is rented locations and underpaid Czech models who, shivering, attempt to portray the provocative ‘Alpine Amazons’, whilst the delighted photographers fail to notice that, on a secondary level, they themselves become the objects of observation.
